Marjorie Taylor Greene calls Trump's court hearing 'real communism' in the US

May 04, 2024

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said former President Donald Trump's court hearing on Thursday over his latest indictment is "actual real communism" in the United States.

The Georgia Republican argued the Biden administration was trying to indict Trump and put him in jail because polling shows that Trump is "going to win." It comes as recent polling showed Trump and President Joe Biden are tied in a general election faceoff, with both candidates receiving 43% support.

"And those who are holding the power and controlling, basically holding the power of the Constitution right now, are putting the Constitution through a paper shredder by what they are doing with the Department of Justice," Greene said in a video posted to social media. "This is not justice. This is the greatest injustice. This is actual real communism in America."

Greene also criticized Republican lawmakers who stand by the Constitution, arguing that many people in the U.S. feel the country is in a "post-Constitution" state. Her comment comes after former Vice President Mike Pence defended his decision not to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.

"Those of my colleagues and many people I'm listening to right now talking about, 'Oh, the Constitution, the Constitution,' I'm sorry!" Greene said. "But I'm going to tell you the reality of how a lot of people feel. They feel like we're actually post-Constitution."

Pence recently discussed his resistance to Trump pressuring him not to certify the electoral results after the 2020 presidential election and how he "chose the Constitution" and always would. Regarding Trump's latest indictment, he stated, "Anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be president of the United States."

Greene recently renewed calls to impeach Biden, sponsoring multiple articles of impeachment against him since he entered the White House in January 2021. In May, Greene introduced the first impeachment resolution against Biden after Republicans reclaimed the majority in the House in January, and, on Wednesday, stated there is a "mountain of evidence" to impeach the president.

Trump has been ordered to appear in a Washington district court on Thursday, and he will appear in front of Magistrate Judge Moxila A. Upadhyaya for his arraignment. He is expected to plead not guilty to all four charges. The latest indictment is the third time Trump has been indicted this year.
